Endowed Scholarship General Providence Fund

Carlos Herrera is a third year student in the Bachelor of Business Administration Program. He moved to Canada three years ago from Puebla City, Mexico. Looking for an opportunity to take some Christian leadership and theological courses, he first heard about Providence through a connection between his home church and a local church in Steinbach, MB.

Carlos is enjoying the demanding nature of his classes and that the business courses are taught from a Christian perspective, emphasizing ethical practices. His favourite courses this semester are Organizational Behaviour and Business Communication. Both are interactive classes which provide an arena in which students can discuss practical applications for the theories they are learning. Carlos also values the close relationships he has with his professors and remarks on the community he found at Providence, saying, “People take care of you, look out for you here.”

During his time at Providence Carlos has grown in character and learned more about himself and his faith. He has commented on the difference he sees between the Providence community and the nominally Christian high school he attended in Mexico. Providence’s emphasis on prayer, in chapel and on the Day of Prayer each semester, has especially impressed him.

After graduation, Carlos plans on returning to Mexico to work. His goal is to start an event business which will support the suffering Mexican economy, with dreams of one day operating on a global scale.

“Studying at Providence is a privilege for me because I come from a country where a small portion of the population has studied at a university – and I have the privilege to study in another country, by your help and support!”
